RONNIE THOMSON, REGIONAL DIRECTOR

Ronnie Thomson has been with Scott Wilson since 1989 and is a Director of the group's South East Asia operations. He has over 25 years experience in civil and geotechnical engineering in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, as well as in Asia.

On joining Scott Wilson in Hong Kong 1989, he participated in the majority of the firm's major projects as a geotechnical specialist. In particular he was responsible for the geotechnical input on major reclamation projects. As well as geotechnical advice on settlements and sea wall slope stability he advised on a variety of ground treatment methods including dynamic compaction, deep vibration and vertical drains. He was responsible for the foundation design of a range of structures from a multi-storey warehouse to an elevated highway. In addition he was responsible for a 36 m high reinforced earth retaining structure and for a range of rock and soil slopes throughout Hong Kong.

Since relocating to Thailand in 1992 he has been responsible for developing the company's business in Southeast Asia. This has included acting as Scott Wilson's Project Director on a range of major infrastructure projects, including Bangkok's Underground Railway, Rama 8 Cable Stayed Bridge and Second Bangkok International Airport, in Thailand. In Malaysia as Director of Scott Wilson Pavement Engineering he was responsible for the company's activities for a range of projects including pavement evaluation and other specialist services. Other projects include Sapangar Bay Port Expansion in Sabah, North East Line Pre-and-Post Opening Survey in Singapore, highway projects in Cambodia and the Phillipines, and a major conservation project in Vietnam.
